On January 29, 2010, Jamison Shaw Hairdressers, Atlanta’s premier salon, raised $5,000 at its fundraiser “Haircuts for Haiti”, to support the American Red Cross’ Haitian relief efforts.
Candy Shaw Codner, the owner of Jamison Shaw Hairdressers, was so moved by the events in Haiti that she felt like she could not just sit around anymore and watch the suffering on television but felt that she had to act. Codner encouraged her 50+ employees to donate their services, time, and hearts to assist the relief efforts. “We don’t have medicine to send, or other critical supplies that would be of help, but we do have a gift in our hands that others here in America desire, with which we can raise much needed funds which are the foundation of any modern relief effort.” Jamison Shaw Hairdressers friends and clients were made aware of the quickly organized efforts and responded soundly, booking close to 100 "Haircuts for Haiti" knowing that the proceeds would help those in need.
Employees of Jamison Shaw Hairdressers, in addition to their services and hourly wages, also donated their gratuities to the American Red Cross. Representatives from the Red Cross attended the event and were moved by the efforts of the 3 hour event and numbers of so many that wanted to help.
Long recognized for its philanthropic endeavors spanning the salon’s fifty-year history, Candy & Fred Codner, the salon’s owners, matched additional proceeds donated by the staff and reached a goal of $5,000 which were donated to the American Red Cross for the Haitian relief efforts.
