Sara Frances Clark Shaw
January 20, 1940 - June 6, 2011

Posted June 7th:

Mom died peacefully last night at her home in Atlanta with her amazing husband of 53 years, Papa by her side, just the way she would have wanted it.  Nana fought a valiant battle for three years and is no longer suffering as she is now in the hands of Our Father.  She was sustained by love and family and never complained a day.  She will remain our hero as her legacy will continue to touch our lives and hearts forever.  Thank you to everyone for your continued support, your prayers, your concerns, your love and your kindness. Your support and friendship has carried us through this difficult time and will continue to remind us of how precious our lives really are.

Sara Frances Clark Shaw, Our Loving “Nana”
Sara Frances Clark Shaw was called home by our Lord on the evening of June 6, 2011 while resting comfortably at her Atlanta residence after a valiant three-year battle with cancer and Myasthenia gravis. Known fondly as ‘Nana’ by her many grandchildren and several great grandchildren; she was born of humble means on January 20, 1940 in the hamlet of Lanett, Alabama, the daughter of Douglas and Dorothy Clark. She rose to become the graceful and beloved matriarch of a large family who loved her more than words can describe and was surrounded by an extraordinary network of loyal friends, many of whom she had known for more than fifty years. Sara was loved and admired by all who knew her. It is fair to say, Nana did not have a mean bone in her body. Of strong intelligence, Sara graduated Lanett High School at the age of 16, completed business/secretarial school at age 17 and married Jamison Shaw in November 1957. She managed the business operations of Jamison Shaw Hairdressers for more than forty-years working side-by-side with her loving husband, Jamison, and her beloved daughter, Candy. Her family and friends will forever cherish the way she always thought of others first, and will miss her grace, her unshakable faith, her timeless sense of style and beauty, her loving kindness, her intelligence, and her tireless work ethic. Nana loved her grandchildren, children and great grandchildren, all of whom brought her such joy, more than life itself.  Sara is survived by her husband of fifty-three years, Jamison Shaw; daughter Candy Shaw (Fred) Codner; sons Dante (Hilary) Shaw and Randy (Gina) Shaw; her twelve grandchildren: Thomas (Tiffany) Shaw, Christopher (Tasha) Shaw, Andrew Shaw, Sarah Shaw, Haley Shaw, Cassidy Shaw, Jamison Codner, Jesse Codner, Jenna Codner, Aynsley (Brett) Younker, Whitney Ashworth, Katie Ashworth; and her three great granddaughters: Taylor Shaw, Tinley Shaw and Charlee Shaw.

A memorial service celebrating her life directed by her loving minister Don Harp will be held at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church located in Buckhead at 3180 Peachtree Road N.W., Atlanta, Ga. 30305, (404) 266-2373, at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 10th. The family will receive flowers at the Church or charitable contributions can be made to the Myasthenia Gravis Association or the American Cancer Society via the www.jamisonshaw.com website. The family would like to especially thank and acknowledge the contributions of Sara’s many dedicated caregivers and friends who brought her comfort, warmth and support during her difficult days, of which she never complained. May you rest in peace Nana.  We shall forever miss you. Heaven simply needed its angel back!
